Osteopathy

Osteopathy professionals face many issues in their day-to-day practice, including occupational health and safety concerns, practitioner registration standards, continuing professional education and informed consent – our lawyers understand your profession and work across the healthcare industry to deliver expert legal advice. Our hands-on approach to your legal issues provides you with reassurance and support when you most need it.

Supporting osteopaths

Our team has a significant background and proven expertise in supporting and defending osteopaths. You benefit from dealing with a legal team that cares and understands the distressing impact that claims of misconduct or negligence can have on you and your staff. We support you throughout the legal process with strategies to minimise the risk to your reputation and to help you get on with your work.

We act for osteopaths in responding to notifications or complaints lodged with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), health complaints entities (HECs) or a National Board and assist in litigation and demands for compensation.

Occupational health and safety concerns came to the forefront for osteopathy professionals following the May 2013 findings of a coronial inquest into the death of an 18 month old girl, who was trapped in the hydraulic mechanism of a massage table in a South Australian clinic. Our dedicated health law team has been involved in a large number of coronial cases over the past two decades and can also advise you on all workplace and occupational health and safety issues.

Our lawyers are actively involved in providing risk management advice to the Australian Osteopathic Association and its members. Our lawyers sit on risk management committees and frequently write articles and present seminars on our experiences aimed at sharing ’lessons to be learned’.
