Meridian Lawyers has announced that leading financial services legal practitioner Michael Bracken will join the firm’s Sydney team on 9 February 2016.
With a client base that is complementary to Meridian’s, Michael advises insurers, brokers, health funds, health and medical service providers, medical defence organisations, medical indemnity insurers and reinsurers.
Prior to joining Meridian Lawyers, Michael spent 17 years as a highly regarded financial services, market regulation and corporate risk Partner at TressCox Lawyers, where he was also Chairman of the Board of Partners for 4 years. He previously worked as Associate General Counsel at EY for 7 years.
Michael’s practice covers a broad range of corporate and commercial skills including advising on mergers and acquisitions and capital raising, corporate and shareholder structures, strategic alliance and distribution structures, online health and general insurance underwriting agency arrangements, the Australian financial services licensing and disclosure regime, financial product development and insurance policy wording, as well as corporate governance and directors and officers liability. He regularly deals with regulators such as ASIC, APRA, Treasury, ASX and SFE.
Michael has achieved much recognition throughout his legal career as evidenced by his inclusion in the Asia Pacific Legal 500 for 5 years for Corporate/M&A expertise, and as a Leading Lawyer in the AsiaLaw Profiles for 2015 and 2016 for his Financial Services Regulatory expertise.
Joining Michael in his move to Meridian Lawyers is Senior Associate Levina Chim, who practices in corporate, commercial and regulatory compliance work. Levina advises corporate entities including financial institutions and advisers, insurers, brokers, and Australian and overseas commodities dealers.
