INSIGHTS: Meridian Lawyers and CLS join forces in Brisbane

June 2, 2014

Meridian Lawyers is pleased to announce that CLS Lawyers will join the firm effective 1 September 2014.

This move to expand Meridian’s presence in the Brisbane market is consistent with the firm’s strategic growth as a leading law firm servicing the insurance industry.

Meridian welcomes Principals Dennis Cronin, Ed Zappert and Adam Butson and their teams to the firm, bringing the total headcount in the Brisbane office to 20.

Following on from Meridian’s strategic partnership with Steadfast Group in mid-2013, the alliance with CLS Lawyers continues the transformation of the firm’s legal service offering to a wider market.

Mr Cronin formed CLS Lawyers nine years ago, practising exclusively in insurance litigation and dispute resolution. According to Mr Cronin, Meridian’s national presence, aligned service offering and client base makes this alliance a natural fit.

“Our complementary cultures and insurance client bases of Australian and London-based underwriters, brokers, self-insured entities, underwriting agencies and a wide range of large employers makes this a very exciting development both for our legal team and our clients,” says Mr Cronin. “Our practices and clients align significantly, meaning clients will benefit from a seamless service delivered from offices in Brisbane, Sydney, Newcastle and Melbourne.”

Managing Principal at Meridian Lawyers Paul Baker believes the timing is right for this move “to expand our capability in the Brisbane market and reinforce the strength of our underlying legal service offering. This will help us to build on our Australian market success and importantly, support our expansion into new legal markets.”

“We are thrilled to have Dennis and his team on board in Brisbane,” says Mr Baker. “Our clients will benefit from the experience and genuine understanding of the insurance industry that Dennis has gained during 30 years in legal practice.”

Scott Ames, who heads up Meridian’s Brisbane insurance team, will relocate to the previous CLS office at Level 8, 60 Edward Street, Brisbane.
