Shane practices in health and insurance law. He acts for hospitals, health practitioners, including doctors, pharmacists and allied health practitioners, in relation to both civil and disciplinary proceedings. He has acted for practitioners and healthcare providers in litigated and non-litigated medical negligence claims, including multi-party and nervous shock and dependency claims.
In his disciplinary practice, Shane acts for practitioners in investigations and proceedings concerning AHPRA and the National Boards, and the Health Complaints Commissioner. He has assisted practitioners to respond to allegations of misconduct before the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal, to respond to proposed immediate action and interim prohibition orders, and to respond to alleged statutory offences. Shane also has experience acting for veterinarians in disciplinary investigations and civil proceedings in Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania.
In addition to his health practice, Shane has considerable experience assisting child care centres respond to investigations under the Education and Care Services National Law. He has advised professional associations in relation to the conduct of internal investigations concerning members. He has also acted on instructions from insurers and self-insurers in public liability claims, including industrial accidents and product liability claims. He provided advice to insurers in relation to indemnity and policy interpretation issues.
Shane holds Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Science from the University of Melbourne. He is a member of the Law Institute of Victoria.
